How to win lane as Jax against Mordekaiser · 55.17% win rate over 1,345 Emerald+ games · Updated 2026-07-27
| Stage | Favoured | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Even / skill | Both of you are dead weight at level 1 — he has no isolated Q value and you have no Counter Strike, so trade Leap Strikes for last-hits and don't get pulled into a duel neither side wins cleanly. |
| Level 2 | Mordekaiser | Morde edges the early trade: his E knocks you off the wave to set up an isolated Q slam, and his W shield-heal eats your single-ability burst before Counter Strike comes online to swing it. |
| Level 3 | Even / skill | Your full combo arrives but his shield-sustain does too, and since most of his damage is abilities your auto-dodge barely matters — trade only when you can recast the Counter Strike stun, because W absorbs the strike otherwise. |
| Levels 4-5 | Mordekaiser | His bully window: W's shield-heal lets him tank the Counter Strike stun and keep slamming while your E is on cooldown, so give ground unless you can land the stun and recast for the all-in. |
| Level 6 | Jax | Grandmaster at Arms flips it — bait Realm of Death, then the active's burst of Armor and MR lets you survive the steal while your Relentless Assault ramps and out-damages him in the 1v1 he forced. |
| First item | Jax | Trinity Force on-hit plus ramped attack speed out-DPS his W shield faster than it heals, and with no dash he can't escape your Leap Strike once you stick on him. |
| Two+ items | Jax | Past first item no juggernaut out-duels you side-lane — keep the Grandmaster active up for his realm and grind him down; the only loss condition is getting caught with the steroid on cooldown. |
Morde's whole early is the E knock-aside into an isolated Q slam — that lone-target bonus is what beats you, not his autos, so don't get pulled off the wave into a 1v1 before Counter Strike has ranks. At level 1 you both have nothing: he has no isolation value and you have no E, so just trade Leap Strikes off the wave for farm and skip the opener. The trap is level 2-3 — he ranks Q+E and his W shield-heal lets him win the short trade your single ability can't close. Worse, Counter Strike's whole payoff is dodging basic attacks, and Morde does most of his damage with abilities, so your E does much less here than it does against an auto-attacker. Concede a little, farm, and don't force a fight your dodge can't swing yet.
