You are a genuine threat at level 1 and level 2 because Kassadin's passive shields magic damage, not your physical charged Q knockup. Walk him toward a wall or tight lane chokepoint, let him push and farm, then start charging Q when he overextends to last-hit. The critical detail: his Q silence is instant and cancels your charge channel if he throws it first — bait the Q by walking forward without charging, then react charge once the silence is on cooldown. W-shield is mostly wasted here since his only poke is the silencing bolt and you gain little from the shield trade.
