Favour timeline — who owns each window

StageFavouredWhy
Level 1Even / skillBoth of you have single-ability access at level 1 — Sylas Q-slows from distance, Sion begins charging Q, but neither can force a decisive trade without taking equal poke back.
Level 2SionSion can charge his Q the moment your E first dash animates, so the knockup lands before your hook pull completes — he wins the level-2 trade cleanly every time you approach carelessly.
Level 3SionSion's full Q-W-E kit punishes every E approach: he knocks you up, absorbs your W with his own shield detonation, and E-pokes while you recover — your sustain cannot offset the spacing reset.
Levels 4-5Even / skillBoth champions have full kits now and the trade is decided by approach angle — you punish the charged Q cooldown with E into W, he punishes your aggression with knockup into shield detonation; neither pulls ahead cleanly.
Level 6Even / skillStealing Sion's Unstoppable Force turns his primary engage into your engage tool, but his zombie passive and immovable bulk mean he retains teamfight threat even without his R — the window is real but not decisive.
First itemSionSion's Heartsteel stacks and growing HP pool outpace what your Riftmaker can convert via W heal — he out-bulks your sustain spike and your E hook simply gifts him a free W-shield detonation at this point.
Two+ itemsEven / skillBoth champions scale into relevant 5v5 tools — your stolen R plus E stun is a two-hit engage, his zombie passive is a second life; neither side has a winning edge and the lane result carries over, not the scaling.

Early game (levels 1–5)

At level 1 neither of you has teeth — last-hit safely and do not throw your E into him blind. The danger window opens at level 2: Sion can begin charging his Q the moment he sees your E first dash, and if you complete the hook pull onto him he knocks you up before your W even fires. Respect the charge animation at all times; you will hear and see him wind up. Your job levels 1 through 3 is to Q-slow him from a distance, bait the charged Q by walking in and retreating, then punish the cooldown with a clean E hook into W. If you eat the knockup you lose the trade badly — his E poke adds chip damage on top of a W-shield he can detonate to push you away.
