How to win lane as Ryze against Zac · 49.51% win rate over 204 Emerald+ games · Updated 2026-07-27
| Stage | Favoured | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Even / skill | Zac has only Q and W at level 1, both melee range — you Q-poke for free while he last-hits and bank Manaflow stacks. |
| Level 2 | Even / skill | His Slingshot is unlocked but you have W root — a tentative standoff; neither of you can safely all-in. |
| Level 3 | Ryze | Full E-W-Q loop with Flux cascade is your first real damage window; W root cancels his Slingshot wind-up if timed correctly. |
| Levels 4-5 | Even / skill | Both kits are fully online and the lane is a Slingshot-vs-root chess match; he has the HP to absorb a combo cycle, you have the kite to back off after. |
| Level 6 | Even / skill | Realm Warp opens flank threats he cannot mirror, giving you the macro edge, but your 1v1 is unchanged — he sustains through one rotation with blob passive. |
| First item | Ryze | CDR from first mana item makes your combo nearly gapless; you now cycle fast enough to burn through blob sustain before he can regenerate fully between hits. |
| Two+ items | Even / skill | Both of you are teamfight carries — his Slingshot and bouncing ult match your Warp and Flux AoE; the lane verdict is settled by team execution, not this 1v1. |
Zac at level 1 is a melee without a meaningful gap-close — his Q (Let's Bounce) and W (Unstable Matter) are close-range, so you can Q-poke him freely as he walks up to last-hit. The threat starts at level 3 when Elastic Slingshot is online: that charge is telegraphed and interruptible, but if you are standing inside his cast range with W already spent, it lands and suddenly you are rooted and taking his full burst. Play level 1-2 to stack Manaflow and poke, and the moment you hit 3 you can start punishing — E the wave near him to apply Flux to both, W root him in place, empowered Q into the Flux cascade. His blob passive means he survives and regenerates, but you force him back and win the CS lead.
