At level 1 you have Q only and must enter melee range to Flux-stack — Akshan punishes exactly that with Avengerang arc pokes that hit both sides of the boomerang path. At level 2 your W root is online but Akshan's Heroic Swing is not yet — this is a brief window where a clean W-into-empowered-Q can land, so threaten the root if he pushes up. By level 3 his E grapple arrives and the spacing war begins in earnest: Akshan will swing away from your W every time you try to pin him, so only commit to the root when you have vision of where he can grapple to and a minion or wall blocks the escape angle.
