Favour timeline — who owns each window

StageFavouredWhy
Level 1Even / skillYou both have weak level 1s — one ability each, no Twin Fang refund chain yet and no Riftwalk — so deny his last-hits and set up your level 2 spike rather than forcing an even trade.
Level 2CassiopeiaYour two-ability Q-prime into refunded Twin Fang out-trades a melee Kassadin whose only tool is Null Sphere's shield-and-silence.
Level 3CassiopeiaA full Noxious Blast into chained Twin Fangs with move-speed kiting is online and he has no Riftwalk yet — he's stuck in melee range and literally cannot escape your ramping E.
Levels 4-5CassiopeiaRanks in Q and E let you chain near-continuous Twin Fangs and win any extended trade; he eats poison in melee with no blink to leave.
Level 6CassiopeiaPetrifying Gaze stuns him as he Riftwalks in, and your refunded Twin Fangs delete an assassin who buys zero MR.
First itemCassiopeiaMalignance or Liandry's plus your boots-free passive speed make you a dominant laner — perma-poke him off the wave and starve the items his scaling needs.
Two+ itemsKassadinHe out-scales hard: rank-3 Riftwalk kites your ~825 range and his Void Stone magic-damage reduction blunts your poison, so play for the end before this window opens.

Early game (levels 1–5)

Kassadin is melee and miserable here — this is one of the cleanest early lanes Cassiopeia gets. Level 1 you both do little, but from level 2 you prime him with Noxious Blast (Q) and slam Twin Fang (E) on the poisoned target, refunding most of E's cooldown and mana so you chain another almost instantly. He has no Riftwalk until 6, and his only answer is Null Sphere (Q) — a damage-and-silence that grants him a shield — so bait that silence on a CS step rather than eating it mid-combo. Last-hit, poke with Q, and out-trade him every level so his scaling falls behind.
