How to win lane as Nautilus against Thresh · 47.79% win rate (40,101 Emerald+ games, lolalytics, sampled July 2026) · Matchup data reviewed on patch 26.15
A hook mirror your passive tilts — even trades end with your root and his apology.
Track: Thresh's Q — Death Sentence (19–9s cooldown). The hook starts the lantern chain — dodge it and the playbook waits 19 seconds.
Read from Nautilus's seat: which stage windows this plan plays for against Thresh.
| Stage | Favoured | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Even / skill | Level 1 is a skill mirror — both are hook engage tanks who win only by landing their grab first. |
| Level 2 | Even / skill | Level 2 stays even — both spike on the second point and the trade goes to whoever reads the other's hook cooldown. |
| Level 3 | Even / skill | Level 3 is skill-decided — free engage windows open only when the opponent's hook is down for either side. |
| Levels 4-5 | Even / skill | Through 4-5 it's even; his Lantern and Flay answer your engage exactly as your CC answers his. |
| Level 6 | Even / skill | Level 6 is a wash — Depth Charge and The Box are both game-changing and cancel each other out. |
| First item | Even / skill | First item stays even — his peel and save match your engage, so cooldown tracking not stats decides picks. |
| Two+ items | Even / skill | Two items remains skill — both are premier engage/peel supports whose ults undo each other's plays. |
This is a pure hook mirror and every phase is skill-decided: both of you are immobile-ish engage tanks who live and die by landing your grab. At 1-2 the winner is whoever respects the other's cooldown — bait his Death Sentence (Q), then punish the long recast window with your own walk-up Dredge Line and Riptide slow. Step into his Q carelessly and he Flays you off, hooks, and turns the lane. Ward the brush so neither of you gets a free flank angle. Two hooks and no mobility means the lane goes to whoever lands first, so hold the brush and make him throw. Take his chain on your own body rather than your carry's, and pull immediately afterwards while your opening attack gives your ADC a clean window.
