At level 1 you actually have a passive edge — Fury of the North's Permafrost resistances activate before either of you has an ability that matters, and his Q Winds of War costs mana and pokes for low damage through your frost armor. Take W, auto the wave, and let him spend mana on poke you are eating for free. Do not step into his auto range unprompted because his passive Colossal Smash hits hard, but the level 1 initiative is yours if you hold position and deny him the step-up. At level 2 the matchup flattens — he gets Justice Punch and can now gap-close onto you if your W is down, so the threat goes both ways and neither side has a clean answer. At level 3 respect Shield of Durand hard: if you see him wind up the W channel, E Permafrost him out of the taunt immediately — stunning him cancels the taunt and denies the magic proc entirely.
