How to win lane as Sejuani against Maokai · 58.49% win rate over 53 Emerald+ games · Updated 2026-07-27
| Stage | Favoured | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Even / skill | Neither side has a Level 1 kill tool — you auto-farm at Q range while his sapling poke and your passive Permafrost armor cancel each other out. |
| Level 2 | Maokai | His Twisted Advance (W) root is point-and-click at Level 2 and he will stick to you into a Q knockback trade your low damage cannot win yet. |
| Level 3 | Maokai | At Level 3 his W root into sapling burst plus Q knockup is a full rotation; your Q-W-E chain deals damage but his passive healing wins the sustained trade. |
| Levels 4-5 | Even / skill | Both kits are limited to poke and posturing — he can root you for free trades, and you can only respond with auto-W if he overextends, making this an even farm window. |
| Level 6 | Maokai | He can root you from a deceptively long range with W and back out safely; your Q dash is too telegraphed and he has no real kill threat but neither do you pre-6. |
| First item | Sejuani | Glacial Prison is a comet he cannot dash out of — land it outside his W range, blizzard him in place, Q charge in, and Permafrost (E) his full Frost stack for the first reliable kill attempt. |
| Two+ items | Sejuani | Two tank items and your full CC chain (R blizzard + Q knockup + E stun) make you the superior teamfight anchor; his Twisted Advance root cannot match the lockdown duration you can produce on the entire enemy team. |
At Level 1 neither of you has real kill threat — he auto-attacks and pokes with saplings while you stack Frost passively, so stay out of Twisted Advance range and last-hit safely. Level 2 is where Maokai starts to get teeth: his W root is point-and-click and he will use it to paste you into the wave for a Q knockback follow-up, so respect the range and do not step up to contest CS if he has W ready. Level 3 is his window too — rooted into a full sapling burst with Q knockup, your combo (Q charge into W double strike into E stun) deals real damage but his passive healing and early HP advantage mean he wins the extended trade. Farm through it and do not burn your Q engage trying to out-muscle him in the phase he owns.
