You have no root yet so he can Q-trade and step back freely — do not fight, stack Manaflow Band charges and accept the chip damage. At level 2 your W comes online and you have a real threat: W-root into empowered Q deals more burst than his Q sustain can recover if you land it, but the risk is that he simply activates Sanguine Pool to dodge the root and reset the whole exchange in his favor. Level 3 is your first real window — E onto him to apply Flux, immediately W-root (Sanguine Pool has a 26-second cooldown at rank 1 and he won't always have it), then empowered Q into Flux-marked target for the bounce cascade. If he pools your W, stop the combo immediately and disengage: your empowered Q will whiff and you've spent your mana for nothing.
