How to win lane as Ryze against Sylas · 48.21% win rate over 811 Emerald+ games · Updated 2026-07-27
| Stage | Favoured | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Sylas | Sylas's Q poke beats your melee-range Q at level 1 and you have no root yet — stay behind the wave and stack Manaflow rather than step into his range. |
| Level 2 | Sylas | His E chain-dash stun comes up at level 2 and beats your Rune Prison in a race — hold W as a reactive answer, not an opener, or he gaps you before the root lands. |
| Level 3 | Sylas | Full E-W-Q drain-fight heals through your level 3 rotation — use Phase Rush to E-Flux a nearby minion, W-root, double Q, and walk out rather than extending the trade. |
| Levels 4-5 | Even / skill | Neither kit has a decisive edge at levels 4-5 pre-item; take only full Flux-chain rotations and do not short-trade into his W heal cooldown reset. |
| Level 6 | Ryze | Level 6 gives you Realm Warp for macro pressure — Sylas steals it but you pick the fight location, so use R off-screen to flank or assist objectives he cannot contest solo. |
| First item | Even / skill | Seraph's Embrace brings near-permanent combo availability and your Q-W-E Flux cascade begins to out-cycle his W drain; this is your first even-footing window in lane. |
| Two+ items | Even / skill | Both reach full AP bruiser scaling and the 1v1 gap stays narrow — win through teamfight Flux cascades hitting multiple targets, not through a side-lane duel his E mobility and W sustain still edges. |
At level 1 you only have Q and must walk to melee range to Flux-stack — Sylas's Q poke punishes every step and he wins any auto-trade you pick. Do not give him a target: sit behind the wave, last-hit with Q at max range, and bank Manaflow stacks. At level 2 he can E-stun into W burst before your Rune Prison lands, so hold W strictly as the answer to his engage, not as an opener. Level 3 is his clearest window — his full E-W-Q-Q drain-fight heals back your rotation before you can end the trade. Survive it with Phase Rush: E a Fluxed minion near him, W root, Q twice, then proc Phase Rush and leave before his second W cooldown.
