How to win lane as Ryze against Lucian · 48.41% win rate over 787 Emerald+ games · Updated 2026-07-27
| Stage | Favoured | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Even / skill | Lucian's Q poke and passive double-shot outrange your Flux-stacking approach completely — survive, stack Manaflow, and do not step into his double-shot angle. |
| Level 2 | Lucian | His Relentless Pursuit lets him sidestep your W root and punish the whiff — W is too valuable to throw at a mobile target with E ready. |
| Level 3 | Lucian | Full E-Q-W loop is online, but Lucian's E still dodges raw W casts — open with Flux on a minion to mark him first, then root only when his E is down. |
| Levels 4-5 | Even / skill | Phase Rush on your combo rotation lets you disengage his double-shot follow-up, keeping trades roughly even when you execute cleanly on E-down windows. |
| Level 6 | Ryze | Realm Warp adds flank and roam pressure; his double-shot does not spike here while your map leverage climbs — Lucian must respect the warp threat and play more conservatively. |
| First item | Ryze | Rod of Ages resolves your HP deficit and each E-Q-W rotation now wins the short trade on math — sustained all-ins are viable and the lane tips in your favour. |
| Two+ items | Ryze | Seraph's activates Arcane Mastery's full loop, making combo rotation near-permanent; you out-DPS and out-tank his double-shot in any extended fight. |
Level 1 is pure damage control: Lucian's Q outranges every tool in your kit and his passive double-shot punishes any step toward the wave. Stand at Q range, last-hit, and let Manaflow Band stack on his poke rather than walking into his double-shot pattern. At level 2 you gain W, but do not spend it reactively — his Relentless Pursuit will dodge it and reset his double-shot, so you are down a root with nothing to show. Level 3 gives you the full E-Q-W loop, and the Flux bounce onto nearby minions is what makes this workable: E a minion between you and him so the mark clips his model, then W root when his E is visibly down and follow with two empowered Q casts. One full rotation on a rooted, Flux-marked Lucian hurts him badly — but if his E is up when you step in, abort, because he will dodge the root and walk back into auto range with Phase Rush nowhere near proc'd yet.
