How to win lane as Olaf against Jax · 49.97% win rate over 1,903 Emerald+ games · Updated 2026-07-27
| Stage | Favoured | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Olaf | You own first contact — Q-slow into autos plus your passive attack speed ramping beat a Jax who has no leap or E Counter Strike yet. |
| Level 2 | Jax | Jax hits his power spike — with Q-leap and E up he dodges your Q approach, stuns your autos, and bursts you on W-Q-E. |
| Level 3 | Jax | He keeps the edge at 3 — his E dodge-and-stun blanks your committed trade while his Q gap-close resets distance you can't punish. |
| Levels 4-5 | Even / skill | Genuinely even — it becomes a pure E-timing duel: bait his Counter Strike and your W-omnivamp wins, eat it and you lose, skill decides. |
| Level 6 | Olaf | Ragnarok cleanses his E stun and grants armor/MR, so you dive through his combo and stick Q-slows — your strongest all-in window. |
| First item | Even / skill | Still a coin-flip — your bruiser-core lane pressure is real but Jax's first Trinity component starts closing the duel gap. |
| Two+ items | Even / skill | Even on paper but trending his way — your flat E true damage plateaus while Jax's Trinity plus Sterak's ramping on-hits and R reclaim the duel. |
Level 1 is yours — lead with Q to slow him, walk up, and let Berserker Rage ramp your attack speed as he chips you; he has no leap and no Counter Strike yet, so he can't dodge or stun. The danger starts at 2-3: once Jax has Q-leap and E up, do NOT auto into an active E — the dodge eats your autos and the stun flips the trade. Throw Q to keep him slowed so he can't gap-close cleanly, pick the axe back up to refund it, and only commit E true damage when his E is down.
