At Level 1 you have nothing but single-target Q, so don't get greedy — last-hit at Q range and respect his Q tongue, which slows you and applies a stun stack on the second hit. By Level 3 you flip it: E (Tangle-Barbs) roots him and he has no dash to break your range, so root-into-Q-rebloom is a clean trade his grey-health passive can't fully refund. Dodge his Q tongue lash — it's a slow, telegraphed line, and if you sidestep it he has no other way to lock you for the all-in.
