How to win lane as Kayle against Swain · 57.59% win rate over 349 Emerald+ games · Updated 2026-07-27
| Stage | Favoured | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Swain | His E root into recast-pull, W zone, and Q bolts is a real pre-6 threat while you have only melee autos and no escape, so he owns the lane's opening. |
| Level 2 | Swain | He still wins it with one point of W and Q poke out-trading you before your ranged form arrives, so play tight around the E cooldown. |
| Level 3 | Even / skill | You stabilize as Q armor/MR shred and W sustain come online and he has no dash to chase, but his E root can still start a winning trade if it lands, so it's a coin-flip on the bird. |
| Levels 4-5 | Kayle | By levels 4-5 dodging the E wave is enough to farm even, and with no dash he can't force the all-in, so the lane already tilts your way as you approach 6. |
| Level 6 | Kayle | Divine Ascent makes your autos ranged with AoE waves and R gives invuln, so you kite his R drain and survive the E-W-R combo for the first time. |
| First item | Kayle | Nashor's plus E missing-health on-hit lets you out-DPS his sustained R drain from outside E range, so you force the extended fight and win it here. |
| Two+ items | Kayle | At 2+ items and level 16 fully-ranged AoE you melt his finite soul-stacked HP through R invuln, so just never get caught by a flank E with R down. |
Swain is the rare ranged mage who actually punishes your worst stage, so respect his level 1-3 hard. His E (Nevermove) fires a wave that homes back toward him and roots the first thing it detonates on; once you're rooted he recasts to pull you in, drops his W zone, and adds Q bolts that can chunk half your bar before you have anything ranged to fight back with. Do not walk into the E line for a melee last-hit you don't need, take CS at the tip of Q range, sidestep the wave on its return, and accept you concede this window. The good news: he's immobile with no dash, and he has no real burst kill on a Kayle who plays around the E cooldown.
