How to win lane as Kassadin against Nautilus · 49.12% win rate over 57 Emerald+ games · Updated 2026-07-27
| Stage | Favoured | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Even / skill | Both of you are weak level 1 — he has only Dredge Line and you only Null Sphere, so neither commits; deny his last-hits and set the wave your way. |
| Level 2 | Nautilus | At level 2 his hook plus passive root chains straight into Riptide damage, and you have no blink to break it — concede the trade and farm safe. |
| Level 3 | Nautilus | Still no Riftwalk, so any landed Dredge Line means his full root-and-Riptide combo lands free; respect hook range and last-hit from distance. |
| Levels 4-5 | Even / skill | Nether Blade mana and a maxed Q let you farm under tower through his chip, but it's still his fight window, not yours — nobody owns these levels. |
| Level 6 | Kassadin | Riftwalk arrives: a blink to dodge a committed hook, leave Depth Charge's path, and escape the gank his CC sets up — your first real answer. |
| First item | Even / skill | Rod of Ages health and mana plus your Q shield and innate 15% magic reduction turn his combo burst survivable — you climb back to even. |
| Two+ items | Kassadin | Ramping Riftwalk lets you blink in, assassinate, and recast out before an immobile Nautilus can reposition for a hook — you own the late game. |
Nautilus's whole threat before 6 is a single point of failure: Dredge Line. The hook drags you to him, his passive roots you on the first auto that follows, and Riptide's waves chunk you while you're stuck — and you have no Riftwalk yet to answer any of it. Don't walk into hook range to last-hit when his Q is up; farm with Null Sphere from max range and concede a little CS rather than eat a full combo. You out-trade him at nothing here, so play around his Q cooldown and never get pinned against the wave where the hook is unmissable.
