How to win lane as Jayce against Lucian · 50.73% win rate over 2,590 Emerald+ games · Updated 2026-07-27
| Stage | Favoured | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Jayce | Level 1 I take Cannon Q and out-range his Piercing Light — gate-Q his step-up for free, just mind that Relentless Pursuit can still dodge a greedy orb onto a minion. |
| Level 2 | Jayce | Acceleration Gate online: my Shock Blast becomes long-range artillery and I chunk him before his Lightslinger double-shot trade pattern is set up. |
| Level 3 | Jayce | Full kit means Cannon-Q into Hammer swap-shred into To the Skies-W-E bursts him while he still can't out-sustain it — commit when Relentless Pursuit is down. |
| Levels 4-5 | Even / skill | Even window — I trade around his Relentless Pursuit cooldown and bank small leads; when his dash is up neither of us can punish, so I just poke through the gate. |
| Level 6 | Lucian | The Culling is a real ult spike and my R is only the stance swap, so a tight lane tips to him at 6 unless I already banked plates and a HP lead. |
| First item | Even / skill | Contested item window — Eclipse keeps my burst live, but once he finishes Berserker's and a first item the poke war is no longer free for either of us, so it comes down to who forces the fight on the Relentless Pursuit timer. |
| Two+ items | Lucian | He out-scales: two items in he dashes through my orb and Lightslinger double-shots down my armorless frame, so I play for picks and let my team handle him. |
I own the very first levels. In Cannon form my gate-Q (Shock Blast fired through Acceleration Gate) out-ranges his Piercing Light, so I poke his last-hit step-ups for free before the wave even matters. Levels 2-3 are my hardest window: Cannon-Q lands, I swap to Hammer so the first hit shreds his armor and MR, then To the Skies into W-E chunks him while his Lightslinger double-shot rhythm still isn't fully online. The catch is Relentless Pursuit (his E) — he can dash sideways to make my orb whiff on a minion, so only fire the gate-Q when he's committed to a last-hit, never when he's free to juke it.
