How to win lane as Jayce against Mel · 53.04% win rate over 807 Emerald+ games · Updated 2026-07-27
| Stage | Favoured | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Jayce | You take Shock Blast at Level 1 and out-range her Q on the first wave — deny her step-up last-hits before minions even matter. |
| Level 2 | Jayce | Acceleration Gate turns your Shock Blast into full-range artillery that outreaches her poke — chunk every walk-up. |
| Level 3 | Jayce | Full kit online: gate-Q into the swap-shred and the Hammer follow-up bursts her squishy frame faster than her Q can answer. |
| Levels 4-5 | Jayce | You out-poke a pre-item Mel all lane — trade around her Rebuttal cooldown and bank a health lead into plates. |
| Level 6 | Even / skill | Her R is just your stance-swap with no spike at 6, but firing a gate-Q into Rebuttal hands her the trade — so the orb timing is the swing skill of this lane. |
| First item | Jayce | Your Tear/Eclipse poke spike still outpaces her first AP item — force the all-in while she has no Zhonya's. |
| Two+ items | Mel | She out-scales hard: two items plus stasis and her execute beat your defenseless frame — the lead had to be spent before now. |
Mel is a newer artillery mage who wants to win the poke war from range, but your gate-Q out-ranges her Q outright once you have Acceleration Gate at Level 2. Take Shock Blast (Cannon Q) at Level 1, range-check her on the first wave, and from Level 2-3 punish every step-up: fire the accelerated orb through the gate, and if she walks in, swap to Hammer for the Armor/MR shred and chunk her. The one rule is her ultimate (Rebuttal) reflects projectiles — never throw a gate-Q into it or your own orb comes back and bursts you instead.
