Kassadin is one of the easiest melees to bully before 6 — he has no dash and his only walk-up trade is Null Sphere's silence-and-shield plus an auto, so play hard to your level 2-3 spike. Take W at 2 and punish with Leap Strike into the Empower-charged hit; at 3 the full kit is online and Counter Strike is your trump card. When he steps up to auto you, pop E to dodge that basic attack, then recast to stun and strike him while he's stuck in melee with no escape. Just know E only eats his auto — Null Sphere is a spell and goes through it — and his passive shield soaks magic, so it's your physical Leap Strike and on-hit pressure landing the work here, not raw magic ticks.
