How to win lane as Irelia against Nautilus · 49.98% win rate over 2,215 Emerald+ games · Updated 2026-07-27
| Stage | Favoured | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Even / skill | You have only Q and no stun, while he has only a long-cooldown hook to threaten — both of you just farm, so deny his last-hits and set up the hook bait. |
| Level 2 | Nautilus | His Q hook plus first-auto root chain locks you out of your dash before you have E to answer back — concede this window and respect the hook range. |
| Level 3 | Even / skill | At 3 your E-stun into Q-reset out-trades him, but it is a coin-flip on whether his Q is on cooldown first, so it stays even. |
| Levels 4-5 | Irelia | Your Bladesurge stacks come online and your cooldowns tighten — you out-skirmish a tank who can only react with one hook. |
| Level 6 | Irelia | Vanguard's Edge walls off his retreat after he flash-hooks in and pins him for the full stacked-shred dive — his immobility is fatal here. |
| First item | Even / skill | Your Trinity Force spike gives full reset uptime and W damage reduction, letting you eat his hook-root-E-R chain and still win, but his tank stats keep it close. |
| Two+ items | Nautilus | He out-scales as a tank: his resists balloon past your shred and his hook-root plus R knockup peel you off every fight — play for objectives, not the late duel. |
Nautilus is point-and-click CC, so the early game is a hook-baiting game, not a poke game. Do not walk a straight line at him while his Q is up — sidestep one hook and his whole lockdown chain is dead for 10-plus seconds, which is your window to E-stun in. At level 1 you just farm with Q-resets off the wave since you have no stun yet. From level 2 respect his passive Staggering Blow: his FIRST auto on you roots, and a root landing mid-dash cancels your Bladesurge chain, so trade in short bursts and back out before he can re-arm that first-hit root on you.
