Level 1 is a coin flip of respect — Jayce's Q-empowered autos out-range your blade and you have no taunt yet, so hold back and last-hit at the very tip of your Q range without stepping into Shock Blast arc. At Level 2 he gets the Acceleration Gate and his poke pattern is live; he can fire a Shock Blast through the gate for doubled projectile speed and range that you genuinely cannot reaction-dodge at close range, so play from just outside that gate radius. By Level 3 you have Q, W, and E but this is still Jayce's window — he has the range advantage and can Thundering Blow you out of your own E taunt, resetting the trade entirely. Accept that Levels 2 and 3 are his; survive them cleanly and do not burn Flash or health trying to prove a point.
