How to win lane as Mel against Malphite · 42.7% win rate (1,096 Emerald+ games, lolalytics, sampled July 2026) · Matchup data reviewed on patch 26.15
Free stacking lane — every Q volley builds your execute while he farms politely.
Track: Malphite's R — Unstoppable Force (130–100s cooldown). Unstoppable engage — usually banked for teamfights, punish lane passivity.
Read from Mel's seat: which stage windows this plan plays for against Malphite.
| Stage | Favoured | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Mel | Malphite stacks armor with no early MR, so your ranged Volley and empowered autos out-poke his Q while you sit safely at 550 range. |
| Level 2 | Even / skill | Q + E lets you root him with Solar Snare and free-cast Radiant Volley on the pinned target — a guaranteed punish he can't answer. |
| Level 3 | Even / skill | With W up too the lane is even — you out-poke, but he can Q-slow and step in for trades, so neither side fully owns Level 3. |
| Levels 4-5 | Malphite | Levels 4-5 stay yours on range — Unstoppable Force is offline, and his armour buys nothing against magic damage while it feeds Ground Slam. |
| Level 6 | Mel | His R Unstoppable engage comes online and ignores your kite — one R-Flash closes the gap and his W-empowered combo bursts you. |
| First item | Malphite | A first armor item plus his Q slow lets him walk through your poke and win the short all-in once he's on top of you. |
| Two+ items | Malphite | Full-armor Malphite statchecks your squishy frame — he R-engages from any angle and you have no dash, one CC, and no peel to survive it. |
Malphite stacks armor, not magic resist, so your Radiant Volley poke and empowered autos hurt him far more than his Q poke hurts you — and you out-range him hard at 550. At Level 2-3 with Q + E you can land Solar Snare's root and rain a free Volley on him while he's pinned, building Overwhelm stacks he can't trade back. Seismic Shard is a projectile, so Rebuttal can return it — and keep the chip coming, because Granite Shield only recharges after a few seconds without a hit. Never sit in his Q, which steals your speed outright.
