Level 1 is actually yours for once — Illaoi is a slow, single-tentacle champ with no burst until she stacks her field, so a Level 1 you can step up and contest the wave. At 2-3 your W (Twisted Advance) root into Q (Bramble Smash) knockback is your real window: dash on, knock her off the tentacle she just planted, land the trade and proc Sap Magic to heal it back before she gets her field online. Do NOT let her plant three or four tentacles and then walk you into them — that is how she takes the lane.
