How to win lane as Jayce against Olaf · 43.71% win rate (1,917 Emerald+ games, lolalytics, sampled July 2026) · Matchup data reviewed on patch 26.15
His R ignores E-knock — anti-heal, kite his axes.
Track: Olaf's R — Ragnarok (100–80s cooldown). CC-immune — your knockback won’t hold him.
Read from Jayce's seat: which stage windows this plan plays for against Olaf.
| Stage | Favoured | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Jayce | You take Cannon Q and gate-Q his last-hits for free — the accelerated Shock Blast out-ranges his walk-up and he has no way to answer the poke yet. |
| Level 2 | Jayce | Your gated orb chunks anyone stepping up to farm, and Undertow is Olaf's only tool to close — sidestep the axe and you own every trade. |
| Level 3 | Jayce | With Acceleration Gate up, the full-range orb plus the cannon-swap armor shred force a health lead before Ragnarok ever exists. |
| Levels 4-5 | Even / skill | He now has both Undertow pressure and sustain coming online but still lacks his R, so the poke war stays roughly even — last-hit the axe and don't over-commit. |
| Level 6 | Olaf | Ragnarok ignores disables while he keeps attacking, and Reckless Swing's true damage melts your zero-armor frame — the level-6 window is his. |
| First item | Olaf | First-item Berserker Rage lifesteal out-heals your gate-Q and gets stronger as he drops, and Undertow plus Ragnarok stop you kiting out. |
| Two+ items | Olaf | He never falls off: his lifesteal and on-hit damage stat-check Jayce's squishy, defenseless frame the instant he closes — play safe and let your team deal with him. |
These first levels are yours and you have to bank them. Take Cannon Q at level 1 and gate-Q him — drop Acceleration Gate, fire Shock Blast through it — every time he steps up for a last-hit. The accelerated orb out-ranges anything Olaf can throw back, and if he commits the cannon-to-hammer swap shreds his armor as he steps in. The one catch is Undertow: if his axe slow lands he walks over it to refund half the cooldown and starts closing the gap your whole game depends on, so sidestep the axe and never stand still on the slow. Out-poke him for a real health lead now, because this is the cleanest the lane ever gets for you.
