How to win lane as Jayce against Dr. Mundo · 44.37% win rate (1,839 Emerald+ games, lolalytics, sampled July 2026) · Matchup data reviewed on patch 26.15
He out-sustains your poke and the regen shrugs your chip. Forget the kill — farm and play for teamfight poke.
Track: Dr. Mundo's W — Heart Zapper (17–15s cooldown). His sustain + reset. Anti-heal it.
Read from Jayce's seat: which stage windows this plan plays for against Dr. Mundo.
| Stage | Favoured | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Jayce | You take Cannon Q and out-range his cleaver — a max-range gate-Q on his last-hit step-up chunks him before his missing-HP regen and W heal are meaningful. |
| Level 2 | Even / skill | His Infected Bonesaw poke and passive regen trade back what your orb pokes, but you keep the range edge with no risk — even skirmish. |
| Level 3 | Dr. Mundo | Full gate-Q plus the Mercury Cannon swap-shred is your peak, yet his cleaver out-trades any melee follow-up and his sustain out-lasts the trade — he edges it. |
| Levels 4-5 | Dr. Mundo | He pairs Q poke and missing-HP sustain while you have no healing — every extended trade tilts to his drain. |
| Level 6 | Even / skill | Your stance-swap is no fresh power spike, but his 6 is Maximum Dosage — his ult heal narrows your kill window hard, so it's a wash. |
| First item | Dr. Mundo | His first Sunfire/Heartsteel eats your gate-Q and his E plus Heart Zapper detonation out-DPS your first-item burst. |
| Two+ items | Dr. Mundo | Maximum Dosage and percent-HP cleavers make him undivable while your no-defense frame folds to his E and W — he stat-checks you. |
Mundo is one of the few melees who doesn't fear gate-Q early: he heals off his passive regen the more HP he's missing, and his W (Heart Zapper) gives him a self-heal when he detonates it, so a sloppy poke war just keeps his bar topped. Take Cannon Q and only fire the accelerated Shock Blast through your Acceleration Gate when he steps up to last-hit or winds up an Infected Bonesaw, then ride your Hextech Capacitor speed back out before he can toss a cleaver. Do NOT walk into Mercury Hammer range to combo — his Q out-trades you in melee, applies a slow, and you have zero sustain to break even. Poke at max gate-Q range only.
