He stacks exactly the stat that blanks you — chip early, then stop donating shells to armor.
Track: Ornn's Q — Volcanic Rupture (9–7s cooldown). Pillar + knockup setup — stay off walls and sidestep the line.
Read from Graves's seat: which stage windows this plan plays for against Ornn.
| Stage | Favoured | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Even / skill | Ornn is immobile with no escape and you both have weak level 1s — neither of you can commit a trade, so this stage is genuinely even. |
| Level 2 | Ornn | His E charge comes online and knocks you up off his own pillar the moment you step into shell range — and Smoke Screen slows, it never blinds. |
| Level 3 | Ornn | Even with your full Q-E-W kit, his point-blank CC catches you exactly where you must stand to deal damage, and a Brittle detonation flips any trade you start. |
| Levels 4-5 | Ornn | Your True Grit armor and MR stacking is worthless here — he doesn't out-DPS you, he locks you down with pillar and W, and his base durability eats your shells. |
| Level 6 | Graves | Collateral Damage is your one nuke window — catch Searing Charge and Bellows Breath on cooldown and you can finally burst him with both shells. |
| First item | Graves | Eclipse or Youmuu's is your peak duel tempo and he isn't fully forged yet — this is the last stage your shell spread meaningfully hurts him. |
| Two+ items | Ornn | He self-forges into armor items while your point-blank damage falls off, and his double-knockup R locks you out of the range you need to fight. |
Ornn is immobile with no sustain, so on paper you should bully him — but his entire kit is point-blank CC and so is your damage, so every time you E in to land your 4-shell spread you walk into a pillar knockup. Worse, his abilities apply Brittle, and his next hit detonates it for bonus magic damage plus a brief stun — and Smoke Screen only slows and cuts sight range, so it does nothing about a knockup. Last-hit with the detonation tip of your Q from range, and don't burn both E charges chasing a tank who only needs to land one ability to flip the trade.
