How to win lane as Gangplank against Kassadin · 53.07% win rate (716 Emerald+ games, lolalytics, sampled July 2026) · Matchup data reviewed on patch 26.15
Bully him early — barrel his approach and cleanse the Riftwalk setup.
Track: Kassadin's R — Riftwalk (5–2s cooldown). His mobility spike at 6. Kill him before it scales.
Read from Gangplank's seat: which stage windows this plan plays for against Kassadin.
| Stage | Favoured | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Gangplank | Kassadin is one of the weakest level-1 champions alive, but Null Sphere reaches 650 to Parrrley's 625 — punish him as he walks up, not by standing in his Q range. |
| Level 2 | Gangplank | He still has no Riftwalk escape and his magic shield is useless against physical Parrrley, so walk up and harass him off CS for free. |
| Level 3 | Gangplank | Null Sphere out-ranges Parrrley by 25 units, so chip from a Powder Keg at 1000 instead and keep his low HP bar bleeding while kegs set up. |
| Levels 4-5 | Gangplank | Parrrley-into-Powder-Keg poke comes online and crushes a champ who only wants to farm and stack mana, so force trades he can't sustain through. |
| Level 6 | Gangplank | Riftwalk lets him escape your keg zone at 6 but not out-duel you, so bait the blink, detonate the keg as he repositions, and keep shoving. |
| First item | Gangplank | Your Sheen plus Powder-Keg detonation spike bursts through his low base HP before his AP items matter, so close the lane on this window. |
| Two+ items | Kassadin | Kassadin out-scales hard once he reaches 2+ items: low-cooldown Riftwalks blink past your barrels and one-shot you, so play safe and let your team handle him. |
Kassadin is one of the worst early laners in the game and Gangplank punishes that hard. Pre-6 he has no Riftwalk to escape and Null Sphere (Q) burns 60 mana on a 9-second cooldown, so every orb he throws at a minion is nine seconds of free lane. Do not walk in assuming you out-range him: Null Sphere is 650 and Parrrley only 625 — it is Powder Keg (E) at 1000 that beats his reach, so chip from a keg rather than stepping to Q distance. The shield Null Sphere leaves absorbs magic damage only, so it is dead weight against your Q. Don't burn your full barrel setup yet, kegs are expensive and fragile this early. And his all-in opens with Nether Blade (W), an auto-attack reset — the wind-up is your cue to step back, not the cast.
