How to win lane as Aurora against Sion · 48.25% win rate over 143 Emerald+ games · Updated 2026-07-27
| Stage | Favoured | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Sion | His charged Q (Decimating Smash) knocks you up for over two seconds and he is base-tanky — at level 1 you have only Q and no W leap to escape, so he owns this window. |
| Level 2 | Even / skill | Your Q-recall and E poke come online and Spirit Abjuration heals the trickle, but his recastable W (Soul Furnace) shield absorbs the chip — a true coin-flip decided by who reads the shield timer. |
| Level 3 | Sion | Even once W can dodge his slow Q, his shield refreshes faster than you can stack poke and a mistimed leap eats the knockup, so he still controls the trade pace pre-6. |
| Levels 4-5 | Sion | He shields on cooldown and a fully charged Q knockup punishes any step-up, so he dictates every trade before ultimates are online. |
| Level 6 | Aurora | Between Worlds makes you untargetable to him from outside the rift and zones his whole engage — your one clean commit, with a W reset-on-takedown if he is low. |
| First item | Sion | Your first-item poke sharpens, but a tank first item climbs his HP and MR just as fast, so the poke war tilts back to the body that doesn't die. |
| Two+ items | Sion | Past two items his stacked HP and MR ignore your Q-E poke and Glory in Death lets him dive you even after dying — he reclaims the lane hard. |
Sion is exactly the slow, immobile target Aurora's kit wants to kite, but his shield makes the early game his, not yours. At level 1 he can fully charge Q (Decimating Smash) for a two-plus-second knockup and you have only Q with no W leap to escape it, so play behind the wave and never stand in the swing line. Once Q (Twofold Hex) and E (The Weirding) are online you can open the poke war — fire Q to curse him, then recast to drag the curse back through him for the second hit, and use E to slow and hop yourself back out — but his W (Soul Furnace) shield soaks that chip and recasts as max-HP AOE, so only commit poke into a shield that's already down. Your passive (Spirit Abjuration) heals you off the spirits you exorcise, which keeps the trickle survivable, but his shield uptime still tilts these levels his way.
