How to win the jungle race as Rengar against Olaf · Matchup data reviewed on patch 26.15
Read from Rengar's seat: the race windows this plan plays for against Olaf.
| Stage | Read | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 Clear | Danger — Avoid Olaf | Undertow slows and Reckless Swing true damage win every extended exchange. Undertow (Q) spam clears fast and chunks anyone who contests their buff on top of that, so level 1 is a straight stat check Rengar loses — keep a wall or camp between you and the axe line and never fight inside his slow, and give the river vision-line respect. |
| Level 2 Skirmish | Respect Olaf | Vicious Strikes (W) sustain means they leave every camp healthier than they do, and Rengar has no clean answer to it on the second camp — Undertow slows and Reckless Swing true damage win every extended exchange. Keep a wall or camp between you and the axe line and never fight inside his slow, and give up the second buff rather than the kill. |
| Level 3 Route | Respect Olaf | The window at the opening scuttle belongs to Olaf: full Q-W-E with Reckless Swing true damage means nobody on the roster out-brawls this. Your own line is real — a 4-ferocity empowered Q already one-shots squishier junglers near any bush — but it arrives second here. Keep a wall or camp between you and the axe line and never fight inside his slow, then give up the level-3 river fight. |
| Levels 4-5 Macro | Respect Olaf — Path Opposite | Do not trade windows with Olaf here: he spends 4-5 invading — Undertow slows and a full health bar make your jungle his second one. Path opposite, keep your entrances warded, and answer the map, not the champion. |
| Level 6 Breakpoint | Respect Olaf's R | Ragnarok's CC immunity turns every post-6 skirmish into a stat check they win, which is the whole problem: Ragnarok makes him immune to every form of crowd control while he runs you down. Kite out the ult's duration before committing — he has no gap-closer once it ends, and spend Thrill of the Hunt to equalize rather than to open. |
| First Item Spike | Profane Hydra Spike | Completing your core item triggers a massive physical damage and burst multiplier that completely overpowers traditional brawlers or assassin targets. Olaf's first item is a large jump — the true damage plus lifesteal turns extended fights into ones he simply does not lose. |
| 2+ Items Scaling | Rengar Favoured at Full Build | You are the better full-build side, narrowly. He is a crowd-control-immune diver, so he has to be kited rather than stopped, so take the duel with cooldowns up and never mid-rotation. |
Start your clear at the Red Buff camp to maximize early health retention via W heal loops before executing a fast full clear straight into an aggressive scuttle crab contest. Olaf clears very fast with Undertow resets and leaves camps healthier than he entered them, so he is always available to fight.

Olaf pressures 5 of the 7 windows in this race — survive the early game and scale into your windows.
Not exactly — Olaf pressures 5 of the 7 windows, so Rengar is playing catch-up and has to lean on the map.
