How to win lane as Trundle against Sion · 54.74% win rate over 380 Emerald+ games · Updated 2026-07-27
| Stage | Favoured | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Even / skill | Both of you have weak level-1 kill threats — Sion's W shield isn't online yet and your Chomp AS steal wins short trades, but neither can solo kill; farm and probe. |
| Level 2 | Even / skill | Sion gets his W shield at level 2, neutralizing your first Chomp burst; bait him into pre-spending the shield on a weak trade, then re-engage on the cooldown. |
| Level 3 | Sion | Sion's full kit is live at level 3 — charged Q knockup plus W burst shield plus E shatter poke lets him win the first real all-in if he channels Q uninterrupted; sidestep the charge. |
| Levels 4-5 | Even / skill | His Q knockup cooldown is the only burst tool to respect at levels 4-5; bait it, then engage inside Frozen Domain where your movement bonus and healing out-sustain his E poke. |
| Level 6 | Even / skill | Subjugate at level 6 strips 25% of Sion's Armor and MR on the first cast and stacks it onto you — he literally funds your tankiness, making the brawl inside Frozen Domain unwinnable for him. |
| First item | Sion | Sion's Heartsteel first-item spike outpaces Iceborn Gauntlet's Chomp synergy; the HP wall he builds means your trades feel lower-damage than expected — wait for two items before forcing all-ins. |
| Two+ items | Even / skill | At two items your double-cast Subjugate drains the full 50% of Sion's resistances onto you — the more tank items he buys, the more stats you steal, and Frozen Domain traps him for the entire drain cycle. |
Level 1 is a chess match of short trades: your Chomp Q steals attack speed and heals off any dying minion, but Sion can cancel your advantage by charging his Q before you close — if you see him standing still and winding up, walk sideways, don't chase. At level 2 he gets his W shield online and will try to block your first Chomp damage with it; bait him into pre-popping the shield on a weak trade, then immediately go for a second Chomp sequence after the 12-second cooldown — you win that window cleanly. At level 3 his Q knockup, W shield, and E shatter-poke are all live, and that is genuinely his best 1v1 window in this lane: if he lands the charged knockup, he wins the trade decisively. Stay at medium range, bait the Q channel by feinting in, then sidestep and punish his recovery with Chomp into Frozen Domain.
