How to win lane as Rumble against Graves · 50.98% win rate over 2,807 Emerald+ games · Updated 2026-07-27
| Stage | Favoured | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Even / skill | Neither side can commit cleanly at level 1 — your Flamespitter has no Heat and his one-ability spread hurts only point-blank, so the lane-start is a genuine wash. |
| Level 2 | Graves | Graves hits level 2 first in feel: Quickdraw lets him E to minimum range where your Flamespitter barely clips him, and Smoke Screen blanks your autos before your Heat ramps into the danger zone. |
| Level 3 | Graves | His full kit is online — E in, Smoke Screen to cut your Flamespitter tracking, shell burst out, and True Grit is already stacking MR against your AP every second he spends in range. |
| Levels 4-5 | Graves | True Grit armor and MR compound with his two E charges, so extended trades favor him: he can dash out of your Electro-Harpoon slow before you finish the empowered Danger Zone Q. |
| Level 6 | Graves | Your level 6 Equalizer is a teamfight tool, not a 1v1 dueling button — he answers any carpet commitment with Collateral Damage into Q point-blank and bursts a squishy Rumble before the zone kills him. |
| First item | Graves | His Eclipse or Youmuu's burst spike outpaces your first AP item; your Liandry's/Rylai's damage over time cannot out-trade his front-loaded shotgun burst plus stacked MR. |
| Two+ items | Even / skill | His single-target shells fall off in 5v5s while your Equalizer carpet melts grouped squishies — bank the lane deficit and win teamfights with cross-map R presence rather than revisiting the 1v1. |
Graves owns this stretch. At level 1 neither side is committed — his one ability and your Flamespitter-with-no-Heat means it is roughly even, but the instant he hits 2 and gets Quickdraw he can E to minimum range, where your Flamespitter cone barely clips him, drop Smoke Screen to blind your autos and cut your vision so your Danger Zone tracking falls apart, and dump the point-blank shell spread before your Heat builds into the empowered ticks. Try to pre-stack Heat in the wave before any trade so your Q is already powered when he dashes in, and use Scrap Shield at the start of his burst rather than waiting — shields eat the first pellets, not the last. His Smoke Screen is your biggest problem: you rely on your Flamespitter's sustained ticks to win trades, and the blind does not stop Q damage but it does stop you from repositioning to keep him inside the cone.
