How to win lane as Riven against Swain · 54.77% win rate over 1,028 Emerald+ games · Updated 2026-07-27
| Stage | Favoured | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Riven | Swain at Level 1 only has Q poke — your Q-auto trades out-damage his poke and he has no root or drain yet to respond with. |
| Level 2 | Riven | Your W stun is live before his E is threatening; walk up and bait the E, then stun him the moment it misses or is on cooldown. |
| Level 3 | Riven | Full Q-W-Q-E-Q chain at Level 3 deletes him before his R drain ramp heals anything back — his root is his only answer and you sidestep or E through it. |
| Levels 4-5 | Riven | Your short-trade pattern beats his sustained drain kit at Levels 4-5; keep trades explosive and leave before R ticks more than twice. |
| Level 6 | Riven | Blade of the Exile's extended Q range and Wind Slash execute outpace his Level 6 R drain ramp — all-in immediately on R activation, not after he has healed. |
| First item | Riven | Eclipse or Trinity spike hits before Swain has meaningful AP — force the all-in now while your burst outruns his drain sustain. |
| Two+ items | Even / skill | Full AP Swain's R drain and soul-stacked HP become genuine burst checks in late team fights; close the game before he reaches three items. |
Swain at Level 1 is pure Q poke — he wants to chip you from range and wait for his E pull to come online at Level 2. Take short Q-auto trades early to force him off the wave but do not over-commit without your W stun. At Level 2 the dynamic flips immediately: your W stun comes online before his E does anything meaningful, so look for the Level 2 all-in the moment you hit it. Walk up, bait his E by staying just outside its cast range, then E in and W-stun him — his E whiffs or is spent, his W bomb has no root to hold you in place, and your full Q chain deletes him before R can activate. At Level 3 his root is live and dangerous, so respect the angle: never walk in a straight line toward him, sidestep his E or dash through it with E-Valor, and punish every miss with an immediate all-in. One successful E pull into his W circle is a punishing trade; two successive misses and he is dead.
