How to win lane as Renekton against Kennen · 50.52% win rate over 776 Emerald+ games · Updated 2026-07-27
| Stage | Favoured | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Renekton | You have no dash at Level 1 and Kennen's Thundering Shuriken Q pokes for free — farm safely with Q range and let him waste his energy stacking W marks you cannot punish yet. |
| Level 2 | Even / skill | E comes up and you can commit, but Kennen's Lightning Rush is also available; trade only if you catch him with Rush on cooldown or you stun air and he pokes you on the way out. |
| Level 3 | Kennen | All three abilities are online for both of you, but Kennen's Lightning Rush lets him ghost through your W stun and reposition out of Q heal range, neutralising your core pattern. |
| Levels 4-5 | Kennen | He settles into a free poke rhythm — Q from range, W passive stacks on every auto, Lightning Rush to escape any E commit — and you must time his 10-second Rush cooldown precisely to land a clean trade. |
| Level 6 | Kennen | Kennen's R arrives alongside Dominus: his AOE stun cancels your empowered W window and kills you through your HP buffer if he gets the rotation off before you E or flash out. |
| First item | Kennen | His first AP item — Rylai's or Rocketbelt — lets him kite or burst faster than your Q heals can keep up; you are no longer the aggressor and should look to shove and rotate rather than commit 1v1. |
| Two+ items | Kennen | Two items of AP and full energy sustain means Kennen out-damages and out-kites you in every extended fight; play for objective side-pressure and wait for his R to be down before committing your team to any skirmish. |
At Level 1 you have no dash and Kennen has Thundering Shuriken Q range on you immediately — take Q first, hug the wave for free Q heals, and accept that he will poke you once or twice before you spike. Do not run at him: he auto-pokes a W passive stack onto you and backs off, and without E you catch nothing. Your only goal here is to hit Level 2 with at least 60% health and full Fury queued. Once E comes up, the calculus flips hard — E in, W-stun before he can activate Lightning Rush, then Q through him for the heal. That two-level window is your tightest opportunity in the whole game and it evaporates fast if he respects it and perma-kites.
