Maokai owns the first levels here and you just farm — you have no shield, no combo, and you're mana-starved while his sapling-empowered W root dash and Q knockback let him bully you off CS. Don't step into his sapling field for a last hit at 1-2; eat a little poke and wait for Bellows Breath. Once you have W at 3 you can finally exhale percent-HP damage and apply Brittle to trade back, but until then respect his level 2 all-in — his root plus saplings will out-DPS you before your shield exists.
