How to win lane as Nautilus against Ryze · 72.22% win rate over 18 Emerald+ games · Updated 2026-07-27
| Stage | Favoured | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Even / skill | Both of you are weak at Level 1 — you have no W shield or E slam, he has only Q poke; deny his last-hits and set up your level spike. |
| Level 2 | Nautilus | At Level 2 your W splash burn or E slow plus passive root wins the short trade before his Q-E combo can reset. |
| Level 3 | Nautilus | With Q + W + E you hook him in, root with passive, and burn him down through his squishy frame before his E root chain comes back up. |
| Levels 4-5 | Nautilus | Your W shield and E scale faster than his pre-item Q poke — you control the wave and zone him off farm. |
| Level 6 | Nautilus | Depth Charge is an undodgeable homing lockdown that beats his Flash and W root — every hook becomes a guaranteed kill or dive. |
| First item | Nautilus | Your engage/tank first item still bullies a pre-Tear-completion Ryze who can't yet out-damage your shield-backed all-in. |
| Two+ items | Ryze | Ryze out-scales hard: with 2+ items his Q-E spam, W root, and shield kite you through your CC chain — play for early leads and let your team handle him. |
Ryze is squishy and immobile at Levels 1-3 — exactly what Dredge Line (Q) feasts on. At Level 1 you're roughly even since you have no shield or slam yet, so just last-hit and respect his Q poke. Once you hit Level 3 with Q + W + E, hook him in, eat his face with your passive root and W splash burn, then E to keep him slowed so he can't body-block minions or kite. The thing to dodge is his Q-E combo — if his Q connects it primes the E root, so trade after his Q is on cooldown, not into it.
