How to win lane as Master Yi against Gnar · 50.23% win rate (215 Emerald+ games, lolalytics, sampled July 2026) · Matchup data reviewed on patch 26.15
Read from Master Yi's seat: which stage windows this plan plays for against Gnar.
| Stage | Favoured | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Gnar | Gnar's ranged Boomerang (Q) poke controls level 1 while you have no closer. |
| Level 2 | Gnar | His Hyper poke and auto harass keep chipping you through level 2. |
| Level 3 | Gnar | At level 3 a Mega Wallop stun can burst you before Alpha Strike is up. |
| Levels 4-5 | Even / skill | Levels 4-5 even out as Meditate heals off his Boomerang chip — skill window. |
| Level 6 | Master Yi | Highlander (R) at 6 gives you sustained DPS to out-duel him. |
| First item | Master Yi | Your first lifesteal/attack-speed item lets you shrug poke and shred him. |
| Two+ items | Master Yi | As a crit hyper-carry you hard out-scale his utility bruiser kit. |
Gnar bullies levels 1-3: his ranged Boomerang (Q) and auto-poke chip you while you have no reliable way to close, and a Mega transform mid-trade can stun-burst you outright. Don't force Alpha Strike into him early — you'll just eat the return Boomerang and Rage procs.
