Morde is one of the few melee bruisers you don't out-stat early, because his W shield-heal lets him sustain through your Granite Shield and his Q hits harder when you're isolated. At Level 1-2 you can contest the wave since your shield eats his first slam, but the moment he hits 3 he has Q-E-W and out-grinds you. Last-hit with Seismic Shard (Q) from range, keep minions between you so he can't E-pull you into an isolated Q, and let your shield refresh — don't sit in his W heal window trading autos.
