How to win lane as Gnar against Sett · 49.54% win rate over 767 Emerald+ games · Updated 2026-07-27
| Stage | Favoured | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Gnar | Mini's ranged autos and one Boomerang win the first trade before Sett has built any grit to power a W smash back at you. |
| Level 2 | Even / skill | At 2 your Hyper third-hit proc plus Boomerang lands a free trade, but Sett's grit and Pit Grit punches answer hard in melee — genuinely even. |
| Level 3 | Sett | Sett's E grab-stun comes online and his W, smashing back the damage he absorbed, punishes the moment you step into auto range. |
| Levels 4-5 | Sett | If Rage is on cooldown his E plus a loaded W smash shreds your fragile Mini body before a Mega Wallop can save you. |
| Level 6 | Even / skill | It is pure form RNG — Mega-up Wallop beats his R suppress-slam, Mega-down he ults you, so the window is a coin flip. |
| First item | Sett | Sett's grit shield and first bruiser item out-sustain your Mini poke and he closes with E every time Mega is down. |
| Two+ items | Even / skill | You stop dueling and become the teamfight engine — his items win the side lane but your wall-ult wins the 5v5, so it levels out. |
Levels 1-2 are mine — Mini's ranged autos plus a single Boomerang chip Sett before he has built any grit to make his W smash hurt, and the third-hit Hyper proc lets me land a chunky free trade and shove. Do NOT throw a Boomerang and then walk in to catch it inside his E range; the grab-stun plus a W loaded with the damage he just soaked erases the whole trade and then some. At 3 he flips it: his E comes online and he just walks me down if I am stuck in Mini, so kite the grab, last-hit at max range, and only commit once Rage is building.
