Ryze starts the lane as a short-range, mana-hungry mage who needs to land Overload and refresh it by spreading Spell Flux to do real damage, and before that combo comes together you out-sustain his poke easily off Carnivore. Last-hit at the tip of your Rupture range and do not facetank free Overload poke for no reason, but know that one good trade flips it: bait his Q, then Rupture into Feral Scream to silence him mid-combo so his E-W root and reset never fire.
