Level 1 is even — you're a one-spell mage with just Q, and he drops an E sapling to push and farm safely, so concede the wave and last-hit at max Twofold Hex range. Once you hit 2-3 you take over: throw Q to curse him through his saplings, recast it to drag the curse back for the second hit, and let your passive spirits heal the chip his saplings deal. His only real kill button is W, Twisted Advance — a short dash that roots — so never sit at melee range with your W down; bait his root, leap it with Across the Veil, and punish the whiff with a Q-recast.
