How to win lane as Aurora against Gnar · 52.17% win rate over 92 Emerald+ games · Updated 2026-07-27
| Stage | Favoured | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Even / skill | Mini-Gnar's boomerang out-ranges my Q and double-dips on the return, and I have no escape online yet — last-hit at range, don't trade into a free hop+boomerang catch. |
| Level 2 | Even / skill | Still a wash: his hop kites my poke and I lack burst pre-3, so I bank CS and watch the rage bar rather than force anything. |
| Level 3 | Aurora | Q-curse plus E-hop comes online and my passive heals the chip, so I win the mini-Gnar poke war once his boomerang is mid-flight and out of his hand. |
| Levels 4-5 | Even / skill | I control trades while he's mini and low-rage, but the moment the bar fills, a mega Wallop-into-GNAR! flips the exchange — so it swings entirely on his rage timer. |
| Level 6 | Aurora | Between Worlds slows Gnar in the rift and makes me untargetable from outside it, ducking the mega GNAR! wall-stun — my cleanest all-in on a low-rage Gnar. |
| First item | Aurora | Luden's/Liandry's sharpens the Q-recast burst so I one-combo a low-armor mini-Gnar before his rage fills and he transforms to answer. |
| Two+ items | Even / skill | Even again — itemized mega-Gnar's GNAR! stun lands while my W is down and bursts a squishy mage, so I poke and dodge from the edge instead of dueling. |
Levels 1-2 are a boomerang-versus-curse poke race, and it is close — mini-Gnar's Q out-ranges my Q and the returning boomerang double-dips if he stands in its path, so I last-hit at max range and never walk up into a free hop+boomerang catch. Once I hit 3 I have Q-curse plus E, and my passive starts pulling spirits off him to heal the chip, so exchanges tip my way: land Q, recast it back through him for the second hit, then E-blast-and-hop before his boomerang comes back to his hand. The one hard rule early is his rage bar — if it is filling toward gold, do not step up, because transforming into mega-Gnar erases the trade I'm trying to win.
