How to win the jungle race as Morgana against Karthus · Matchup data reviewed on patch 26.15
Read from Morgana's seat: the race windows this plan plays for against Karthus.
| Stage | Read | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 Clear | Even Skirmish | Even at the first buff, for a concrete reason — Lay Waste melts camps at record pace, while the W camp-melt is elite tempo; champion fights are not — clear and bank it. Close the gap immediately — at melee range his Q damage halves and he folds, and let the camp timers choose the fight for you. |
| Level 2 Skirmish | Even Skirmish | Dead-even on the second camp: Dark Binding is gank bait, not duel material; refuse the river 1v1, while Wall of Pain slows cover their disengage. Whoever arrives with more HP and cooldowns wins, so track their clear and pick the moment. |
| Level 3 Route | Even Skirmish | Neither side cleanly wins level 3 — isolated Lay Waste double-damage adds up fast if you stand in his Defile zone, but Black Shield protects a teammate's gank — your duel stats remain poor. Trade only from full health; as the first scuttle timer lands the first mis-step decides this, not the kits. |
| Levels 4-5 Macro | Respect Karthus — Path Opposite | Do not trade windows with Karthus here: he out-farms the map through 4-5 — Defile clears at a rate nobody matches and Requiem is coming. Path opposite, keep your entrances warded, and answer the map, not the champion. |
| Level 6 Breakpoint | Respect Karthus's R | The six-spike belongs to Karthus, and Morgana's does not bridge the gap: Requiem finishes you from anywhere — every low-HP recall is a coin flip now. Base at higher HP thresholds and remember Death Defied still kills over his corpse. Your own ultimate is a tool here, not a trump card — spend it to escape or equalize, not to start fights. |
| First Item Spike | Liandry's / Zhonya's | First items transform your pool and shackles into real kill pressure while the hourglass makes your engage survivable. Your camp economy accelerates past Karthus's and your pick game becomes lane-altering. Force fights at pits where your W floors the contest space. Karthus' first item is where Lay Waste stops chipping and starts taking a third of a health bar per cast. |
| 2+ Items Scaling | Danger — Karthus Outscales | You lose the long game outright: he deals damage from anywhere and keeps dealing it dead — Death Defied buys the fight, and no build path of yours answers that. Convert every early lead into an objective immediately. |
Start at the buff adjacent to raptors or krugs — your W wants multi-monster camps immediately. Track Karthus's entry side to place your binding-escape route; your clear speed buys you the map's safest farm pattern. Karthus has the fastest clear in the game with Lay Waste and Defile, and he will always be a level ahead if left alone.

Karthus pressures 3 of the 7 windows in this race — survive the early game and scale into your windows.
Not exactly — Karthus pressures 3 of the 7 windows, so Morgana is playing catch-up and has to lean on the map.
