How to win the jungle race as Gragas against Rek'Sai · Matchup data reviewed on patch 26.15
Read from Gragas's seat: the race windows this plan plays for against Rek'Sai.
| Stage | Read | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 Clear | Respect Rek'Sai | The window at the first buff belongs to Rek'Sai: Fury-fueled Q autos clear fast and win the first raptor fight. Your own line is real — Barrel Roll poke plus passive sustain wins the slow first trade — but it arrives second here. Ward her tunnel entrances — if you can't see the burrow line, don't walk the river, then skip the level-1 crossing. |
| Level 2 Skirmish | Respect Rek'Sai | At level 2 this window belongs to Rek'Sai: the Unburrow knock-up gives a free engage on anyone walking their tunnels, and an Unburrow knock-up from an unseen tunnel starts every fight on her terms. Ward her tunnel entrances — if you can't see the burrow line, don't walk the river. Refuse the level-2 skirmish and bank tempo on the opposite side of the map. |
| Level 3 Route | Respect Rek'Sai | An Unburrow knock-up from an unseen tunnel starts every fight on her terms — Gragas has no answer to that at level 3. The full tunnel network plus knock-up means they dictate where every fight starts on their half of the map too, so give up the level-3 river fight and answer the pressure cross-map. |
| Levels 4-5 Macro | Respect Rek'Sai — Path Opposite | You lose the 4-5 duel. He builds a tunnel network through 4-5 that lets him arrive in a lane from an unwarded direction — so let them have that half of the map and cash the other half faster. |
| Level 6 Breakpoint | Respect Rek'Sai's R | The six-spike belongs to Rek'Sai, and Gragas's does not bridge the gap: Void Rush's untargetable execute finishes any trade that drops you low. Stay above execute range — a marked duel at half HP is already over. Your own ultimate is a tool here, not a trump card — spend it to escape or equalize, not to start fights. |
| First Item Spike | Tank Item Spike | First tank item online, your trades become rude: drink, slam, barrel, and walk away healthier than the exchange deserved. Camp clears speed up enough to full-clear into every objective spawn. Force river fights where the cask has walls to play with. Rek'Sai's first item is a real jump in duel power, but it is also close to the end of her scaling curve. |
| 2+ Items Scaling | Gragas Favoured at Full Build | Two items on, the edge is yours. The one thing to plan around is that he executes anything below the Void Rush threshold from across the map — take that away and the fight is a formality. |
Start either buff and lean on Q-W sustain — you need no leash and end healthy. Watch Rek'Sai's entry side from leashes; you can shade toward them for a level-3 slam ambush if their clear runs low. Rek'Sai clears fast on Fury-fuelled attacks and Furious Bite, and her tunnels make her map speed better than her clear suggests.

Rek'Sai pressures 5 of the 7 windows in this race — survive the early game and scale into your windows.
Not exactly — Rek'Sai pressures 5 of the 7 windows, so Gragas is playing catch-up and has to lean on the map.
