How to win the jungle race as Ekko against Gragas · Matchup data reviewed on patch 26.15
Read from Ekko's seat: the race windows this plan plays for against Gragas.
| Stage | Read | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 Clear | Respect Gragas | A Body Slam stun into barrel burst wins any trade he starts — Ekko has no answer to that at level 1. Barrel Roll poke plus passive sustain wins the slow first trade on their half of the map too, so skip the level-1 crossing and answer the pressure cross-map. |
| Level 2 Skirmish | Respect Gragas | Drunken Rage damage reduction makes their short trades strictly efficient, and Ekko has no clean answer to it on the second camp — a Body Slam stun into barrel burst wins any trade he starts. Sidestep the E line — without the slam connecting his early damage is modest, and give up the second buff rather than the kill. |
| Level 3 Route | Respect Gragas | The window at the opening scuttle belongs to Gragas: the Body Slam stun engage completes a surprisingly strong early brawl kit. Your own line is real — Parallel Convergence stun setups give you your first real pick threat — but it arrives second here. Sidestep the E line — without the slam connecting his early damage is modest, then give up the level-3 river fight. |
| Levels 4-5 Macro | Even — Farm & Track | Levels 4-5 are a stalemate vs Gragas — match their clear speed, keep river vision, and bank gold for the level-6 window instead of coin-flipping. |
| Level 6 Breakpoint | Chronobreak Favoured | Chronobreak insures every dive — commit, nuke, rewind out. Explosive Cask displacement decides objective fights, so the margin is real but narrow: fight when your ultimate is up and Explosive Cask is the one on cooldown. |
| First Item Spike | Lich Bane Spike | Completing your core item scales your Phase Dive auto-attacks into devastating burst chunks that instantly threaten squishy targets. Your clear velocity scales dramatically, allowing you to instantly clear out camps before executing high-impact side-lane transitions. Use this damage spike to actively hunt down isolated targets inside the river grid. Gragas' first item makes the Barrel Roll into Body Slam combo a real chunk instead of a nuisance, on a short cooldown. |
| 2+ Items Scaling | Ekko Favoured — Wins Late | Gragas falls off relative to you — from two items on you win the raw stat check, even though he is a displacement engine — the Cask decides objective fights he does no damage in. Drag the game long and force the 1v1s. |
Start your clear path at the Blue Buff node to optimize early ability haste cycling before running through your multi-monster camps toward the lower scuttle. Track Gragas's initial lane arrivals to verify if they are mirroring your lane pathing or executing an opposite side clear away from your path. Gragas clears comfortably off Barrel Roll and Happy Hour sustain, and he reaches the river with health to spend.
