At level 2 you have E but he still wins straight trades — only throw the root when Apprehend is visibly on cooldown and you are certain the root lands before he can E. Level 3 gives you the W-into-E setup, but Darius's passive bleed still out-damages a single rotation, so poke with W to tick Hemorrhage-free damage from range, then root only when he over-commits on the Decimate step-up.
