Ryze has to walk up to melee-range minions to last-hit early, and that is exactly where your Thundering Shuriken (Q) plus Electrical Surge auto on-hit punish him. Throw Q on cooldown and weave an empowered auto to start stacking Mark of the Storm, but do not facecheck a forward Ryze who can land his Q-E and root you in place. At levels 2-3 a clean Q plus W-into-auto can build to a third-stack stun on an overstepping Ryze, and his early shield is not enough to survive the trade that follows.
