How to win lane as Kennen against Aatrox · 49.23% win rate (979 Emerald+ games, lolalytics, sampled July 2026) · Matchup data reviewed on patch 26.15
Poke him out — Q-shuriken his windups, kite his combo.
Track: Aatrox's Q — The Darkin Blade (14–6s cooldown). Sweetspots knock up. Sidestep them.

This is Kennen's own plan; across 979 pooled games the lane is leaning Aatrox.
| Stage | Favoured | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Kennen | You out-poke a level-1 Aatrox with Thundering Shuriken and Electrical Surge while his only tool is a Q knockup he can't reliably land — chip and start stacking marks. |
| Level 2 | Kennen | Your second Q point plus W on-hit lets you stack to a Mark of the Storm stun before he has a W chain-pull to answer, so you own this overstep window. |
| Level 3 | Even / skill | His level-3 combo comes online and a sweetspot Q flips the trade with his heal — keep poking but it's a genuine skill-check on dodging his knockup now. |
| Levels 4-5 | Kennen | You still out-range his Q and any extended trade he forces costs him more than your chip, as long as you never get caught by the W pull. |
| Level 6 | Kennen | Slicing Maelstrom into a third mark stun-locks him out of his R combat-stat all-in — this is your hardest pre-item window and you win almost any duel here. |
| First item | Kennen | Hextech Alternator or Rocketbelt cashes the full Q-W-E-R combo into a kill before his drain heal and Death's Dance can out-sustain your magic burst. |
| Two+ items | Even / skill | Full-build Aatrox heals through your burst, survives the stun, and out-drains you in melee once Maelstrom is down — close before this or pivot to teamfights. |
Aatrox is weakest exactly when I'm strongest — levels 1-3 he only has his Q knockups and no W chain-pull setup, so I poke with Thundering Shuriken and chip with Electrical Surge autos to start stacking Mark of the Storm. Never eat the sweetspot tip of his Q; sidestep into the inner ring or dodge entirely, because each connected sweetspot heals him through his passive. Stack two marks with Q plus a W on-hit and I can land a real trade or even a stun on him if he steps up to last-hit.
