Vlad has a miserable level 1 — no pool, no sustain ramp, and he pays health for everything — so at level 1 walk up and auto-trade, then Q (Bladesurge) off a melee minion to break away if he answers with Transfusion (his Q heals him on each cast, so don't let him free-cast it on you). By level 2-3 he can put a point in Sanguine Pool, but he'll usually have only one rank up, so it's his one and only escape. Your opener is level 3: hold E (Flawless Duet) and wait — when he steps up to Transfusion-poke or E with Tides of Blood, E-stun him and Q-reset chain through the minion to dump armor-shredding on-hit DPS. Bait the single pool, then punish; do not throw E blind into a poke trade.
