How to win lane as Irelia against Illaoi · 45.88% win rate (935 Emerald+ games, lolalytics, sampled July 2026) · Matchup data reviewed on patch 26.15
Dodge her E — Q-reset around her tentacles and E-stun her.
Track: Illaoi's E — Test of Spirit (16–12s cooldown). Dodging this is the whole matchup.
Read from Irelia's seat: which stage windows this plan plays for against Illaoi.
| Stage | Favoured | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Even / skill | Her level-1 tentacle already slams for free damage while I have only Bladesurge — I last-hit with Q-resets from outside the swing arc and concede the level. |
| Level 2 | Illaoi | Her tentacle slams plus a landed Test of Spirit (E) out-damage my level-2 Defiant Dance channel, so one ripped spirit swings the whole trade to her. |
| Level 3 | Illaoi | Even with my E (Flawless Duet) stun online, if she lands Test of Spirit (E) the tentacle slams shred me faster than my reset DPS ramps, so she edges the level-3 window. |
| Levels 4-5 | Illaoi | Levels 4-5 her tentacle field blankets the lane and she heals off every slam — I can't stick to her without eating AOE, so she controls every skirmish. |
| Level 6 | Illaoi | Her R (Leap of Faith) drops a fresh tentacle ring and makes any all-in lethal; my Q-dashes only land me next to more tentacles, so level 6 is firmly hers. |
| First item | Illaoi | At one item her tentacle-field damage and sustain still beat my spike if I fight in her zone, so she keeps lane priority unless I fully disengage. |
| Two+ items | Irelia | At 2+ items I E-stun and Q-dance her off her tentacles into open ground, where a dashless, escape-less Illaoi finally loses the duel to my on-hit ramp and stun. |
Level 1 is genuinely even — neither of us has a kit yet, so I farm with Q-resets to side minions and stay clear of her tentacle swing arc. The trap is her Test of Spirit (E): if she rips my spirit and then autos the vessel, every nearby tentacle slams the spirit and I lose the trade hard, so I dodge that skillshot above all else. At 2 I have W (Defiant Dance) to channel through one tentacle slam, but I do NOT walk into her field to use it. By 3 my E (Flawless Duet) can stun her as she dashes in on W (Harsh Lesson), but I only commit when she has no easy Test of Spirit angle on me.
