How to win lane as Gnar against Galio · 48.39% win rate over 715 Emerald+ games · Updated 2026-07-27
| Stage | Favoured | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Gnar | At level 1 my Mini autos and Boomerang Throw out-range him and chip him before his Colossal Smash passive or bonus MR matters — I win the first trade for free. |
| Level 2 | Even / skill | Level 2 is a coin flip: my Hyper third-hit proc wants to trade, but he can Winds of War poke back, so it's even until someone commits. |
| Level 3 | Galio | Level 3 his Justice Punch (E dash-knockup) lets him gap-close onto my squishy Mini body and chain Shield of Durand taunt or a tornado — I lose the free-poke pattern. |
| Levels 4-5 | Galio | Through 4-5 my Rage is unreliable while his passive MR scales and his MR items blunt my Hyper — if I'm caught in Mini when he dashes and taunts, I'm dead. |
| Level 6 | Galio | At 6 his global Hero's Entrance adds map pressure and his all-in is fully online while I'm still form-dependent, so he owns the window unless my Mega happens to be up. |
| First item | Galio | His first tank/MR item plus his passive magic resist cuts my magic damage hardest here — I can't out-trade a beefy Galio with poke alone. |
| Two+ items | Even / skill | At 2+ items I stop dueling and out-teamfight him — my Mega wall-ult beats his telegraphed engage and he can't burst my Mega bulk, so it levels back out. |
Level 1 is mine — I out-range him with Mini autos and a single Boomerang Throw before his Colossal Smash passive and bonus magic resist mean anything, so I poke him off the wave and take the first trade clean. The problem starts at 3 when his Justice Punch (the E dash-knockup) comes online: now he can close the gap onto my fragile Mini body, knock me up, and chain Shield of Durand taunt or a Winds of War tornado, and I can't just walk backward for free anymore. Don't keep throwing Boomerang into his face once he can dash — bait the E, sidestep, then re-poke on the catch. Respect that his kit out-trades my Mini form the moment he can touch me.
